EXPERIMENTAL DIDACTIC UNIT

Experimental Didactic Unit (E.D.U.) has been a component of Agricultural University of Tirana since its foundation in 1951.

Actually, E.D.U. manages 140 ha of land, and largest part of it is located at the vicinity of Rinas National Airport of Tirana, about 9 km far from university campus.

E.D.U. is organized in three sectors:

1. Crop production sector
2. Horticulture, Fruit-trees and Forestry sector
3. Livestock Husbandry sector

Various experiments related to soil issues, agricultural mechanization etc. are carried out in crop production sector. Many cash crops are cultivated in EDU plots. Professional practices with students and various experiments of scientific character are carried out, as well.

As to the sectors of Horticulture, fruit-trees and forests, there is a greenhouse of about 1320 m2; there are also fruit trees orchards, a forestry nursery and the dendrology garden, which serve as didactic, experimental centers for both students and pedagogues.

Another activity is livestock husbandry of various species of animals such as: cattle, sheep, horses, pigs, bees etc., which are used by the faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Department of Animal Husbandry (Zootechny) for didactic, experimental and scientific purposes.

E.D.U. aims to get modernized and be transformed into a National Agricultural Training Center, supported by State budget and donators financing.
