The Agricultural University of Tirana signed a Memorandum of Cooperation as part of the public health veterinary initiative “Safe Paws Albania,” an initiative of several institutions and organizations that aims to promote animal welfare and strengthen public health through coordinated veterinary interventions.

The signing was preceded by a coordination meeting held at the AUT Rectorate, attended by representatives from national and international institutions, including AKVMB, UPMVSH, the Municipality of Tirana, the Municipality of Tropojë, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at AUT, the organization World Vets, SDI, and the Jahangiri Foundation.

The Rector of AUT, Prof. Dr. Fatbardh Sallaku, emphasized the importance of institutional collaboration in addressing issues related to veterinary public health and the management of animal populations in the country. Meanwhile, representatives of the institutions and organizations spoke about the initiative and the operational methods that will be followed for its implementation.

The “Safe Paws Albania” campaign, which will take place in Tropojë from June 13–20, aims to provide veterinary care for approximately 150–300 street animals (dogs and cats) through professional services and specialized interventions. The parties confirmed their respective roles and responsibilities according to the Memorandum, as well as the key deadlines for preparing the field activities.

The initiative “Safe Paws Albania” represents an important step toward strengthening the role of the The Agricultural University of Tirana in socially and health-impactful projects, connecting academic expertise with the concrete needs of the community and advancing modern veterinary practices in Albania.
