From Vision to Action: Transforming UBT through Strategic Partnership with BOKU Vienna

On this day two years ago, UBT embarked on a profound transformation journey following the signing of a strategic cooperation agreement with the University of BOKU Vienna. Today, we look back with pride at what has been achieved and forward with determination toward what is still to come.

This partnership, brought to life through the continuous dedication of UBT staff and our esteemed colleagues from BOKU Vienna, under the leadership of Prof. Hubert Hasenauer, has become a cornerstone of institutional renewal and academic modernization.

Over this period, more than 21 structured missions have been implemented, alongside dozens of meetings, consultations, workshops, presentations, analyses, and evaluations. These collective efforts have enabled UBT to redesign and elevate its academic offering building a new, modern, and robust academic architecture ready to serve Albanian youth in the upcoming academic year.

This has been a remarkable journey of a university that has chosen to embrace change, respond to evolving expectations, and align itself with the aspirations of Albania’s EU 2030 vision.

We extend our deepest gratitude to every colleague who has contributed and continues to contribute to this meaningful transformation of UBT. Special appreciation goes to the outstanding team from BOKU Vienna, and especially to Prof. Hubert Hasenauer, for his exceptional leadership throughout this process.

We also sincerely acknowledge and extend our gratitude to the Government of Albania and the Government of Austria for their continued and strategic support in advancing this long-term and ongoing initiative.

This landmark project implemented for the first time in a higher education institution in Albania stands as a pioneering model of intergovernmental cooperation and institutional transformation in higher education.

A particular milestone within this transformation is the modernization of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, aligned with the model of the University of Veterinary Medicine, (Vetmeduni), Vienna and meeting EAEVE standards, under the guidance of Prof. Petra Winter, President of EAEVE.

What comes next:

The work continues with even greater intensity, focusing on strengthening scientific activity, advancing digital transformation of university services, and positioning UBT as a regional center of excellence in education and research in agriculture and the environment.

From vision to action this is a journey of lasting transformation.
