The Advanced Four-Week Course in Veterinary Pharmacy Launches at UBT

The Agricultural University of Tirana, through its Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, in cooperation with the Albanian Professional Order of Veterinarians, has launched this week the Advanced Four-Week Course in Veterinary Pharmacy, dedicated to veterinarians who are practicing the profession or intend to open a veterinary pharmacy.

The course is structured into four detailed modules, combining theoretical lectures, field practice, and assessment seminars, totaling approximately 29 hours per week during the first three weeks and 28 hours in the fourth week.

Module I, led by Prof. Dr. Erinda Lika, focuses on the​ Principles of Clinical Pharmacology and Veterinary Chemotherapy, addressing the use of medicines, the concept of dosing, therapeutic index, pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic parameters, classification of antibiotics, ch​emoresistance, as well as the use and control of anesthetics in veterinary pharmacies. The module also includes elements of veterinary prescription practice, group work organization, and seminars for knowledge assessment.

Module II addresses the Toxicology of Veterinary Drug Residues, Immunoprophylaxis, and Hormonal Therapy, with contributions from Prof. Dr. Jani Mavromati, Prof. Dr. Xhelil Koleci, and Prof. Dr. Luigj Trumalaj. The focus is on drug residues in products of animal origin, toxicological risks to public health, vaccination strategies, post-vaccination reactions, antiviral chemotherapy, and the use of hormones ​in different species.

Module III is dedicated to Applied Clinical Pharmacology according to species and production systems, addressing the use of medications in ruminants, companion animals, equines, aquaculture, and wildlife, as well as issues related to drug residues in milk and meat.

Module IV focuses on the Legal Framework and Professional Management of Veterinary Medicines, including veterinary and pharmaceutical legislation, documentation for drug registration, regulations on their import and sale, as well as professional practice at a veterinary pharmaceutical depot and licensed veterinary pharmacies. The program also covers Law No. 113/2015 “On the Professional Order of the Veterinarian” and the Code of Professional Ethics.

The implementation of this course represents an important step in strengthening continuing professional education in the field of veterinary pharmacy, ensuring the updating of scientific knowledge, compliance with the applicable legislation, and the enhancement of veterinary service standards in Albania.
