"Grandma’s Recipe Is Modern”: Students Promote Local Products

The aroma of Dibra and Kukës flija, Korça lakror, Tirana's tava e dheut, and other authentic specialties from different regions of the country brought a unique atmosphere of celebration, culture, and identity to the Agricultural University of Tirana.

Students of the Professional Master's program in 'Rural Tourism Management' and the two-year professional program in 'Agrotourism and Hospitality' at the Agricultural University of Tirana (UBT) organized a special event dedicated to promoting traditional products and Albanian cultural identity, as part of the course 'Territorial Products'.

The activity aimed to raise students' awareness of the importance that local products have for the economic development of rural communities, the strengthening of tourism, and especially the growth of agritourism. Through this assignment, students were encouraged to explore, appreciate, and promote authentic traditional products, gaining a deeper understanding of their role in preserving local identity and supporting the development of rural areas.

Under the slogan 'Grandma’s Recipe Is Modern,' students presented authentic dishes from various regions of Albania, bringing together traditional flavors, folk costumes, music, and elements of the cultural heritage of their respective areas. The event became a celebration of Albania’s cultural and gastronomic diversity, demonstrating that tradition remains a valuable asset for the development of contemporary tourism.

At the opening of the event, Associate Professor Xhevaire Dulja congratulated the students on their motivation, dedication, and excellent organization, emphasizing the importance of developing, promoting, and integrating local territorial products into agritourism offerings as a way to enhance the identity and authenticity of Albanian tourism.

The event was also addressed by the Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Agribusiness, Prof. Dr. Remzi Keço, who praised the initiative and commitment of the students, highlighting the opportunities that rural tourism and agritourism offer for the country's economic development.

Through this activity, students had the opportunity to connect their theoretical knowledge with practical experience, while promoting the values of Albania’s gastronomic heritage and its potential for the sustainable development of rural tourism.
