Departament of Foreign Languages
The Department of Foreign Languages is an integral part of the Faculty of Economy and Agribusiness. This department provides a supportive role across all the departments of the different faculties at the Agricultural University of Tirana. We teach the module of English for Specific Purposes and Medical Terminology (Latin) in the bachelor’s degree. For several years now the Department of Foreign Languages also teaches other languages such as German, French and Italian for the master’s degree. These modules aim to foster the language competencies for students on core skills of foreign language learning like listening, reading, writing and speaking.
✅ Mission
The mission of our department is to provide contemporary and quality teaching to AUT students. Members of the academic staff of DFL are specialized in linguistics, teaching methodologies, pedagogy, psychology, terminology and other competencies. The focus of our department is train students in the use of technical-scientific terminology so that they will be able to communicate in different situations, as well as be trained to browse through abundant scientific technical literature across various profiles and areas of study at AUT.
Within the framework of enhanced scientific cooperation, the Department of Foreign Languages founded the Teaching and Research Group of Terminology, which in addition to teaching is focused on working with terminology in various fields of different programmes across the five faculties. Each faculty of AUT has it own ESP textbooks, such as: English for agriculture and environment, English for business and finance, English for rural tourism, English for veterinary medicine, English for food technology and English for forestry.
AUT also hosts the English language exam APTIS, available not only for AUT students, but also beyond AUT. This test is officially recognized by the Ministry of Education and Science for all students applying for Master of Science or PhD programmes. APTIS yields reliable and accurate results for English proficiency and is designed to evaluate four disciplines: speaking, writing, listening and reading.
